ZAMMIT Raymond

Raymond Zammit is a Senior Lecturer in Social and Professional Ethics at the University of Malta. He read for a BA in Philosophy and Psychology and then pursued theological studies in Malta, graduating with a licentiate in Pastoral Theology. He then furthered his postgraduate studies at the Academia Alfonsiana (Lateran University, Rome) where he obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology with a specialization in bioethics, submitting a dissertation entitled Eugenics: Past, Present and Future (2002). Doctoral research was pursued both at the Alfonsiana and at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics (Georgetown University, Washington, DC) where he was accepted as a research scholar (2004). In January 2006, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on Children's Right to Participate in Medical Decision Making. Currently, he teaches a number of courses on social and professional ethics, bioethics, business ethics, ethics in criminal justice, and food ethics. Between 2008 and 2013, he was also a member of Malta's national Bioethics Consultative Committee. He was also a member of Cost Action IS1201: Disaster Bioethics (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). Dr Zammit currently chairs the Professional Ethics Platform at the Faculty of Theology. He is a member of the Health Ethics Committee of the Department of Health as well as a member of the Bioethics Reflection Group of COMECE. Dr Zammit’s latest works include: Viaggio intorno all bioetica: Tra scienza e cinema (coedited with Pietro Grassi and Elena Toniato; Tau 2019); Contemporary Issues in Bioethics (co-edited with Emmanuel Agius; Horizon 2019); and La bioetica e i cinque sensi (co-edited with Pietro Grassi, Tau 2021).

Raymond Zammit è Senior lecturer di etica sociale e professionale presso l'Università di Malta. Ha perseguito una laurea in Filosofia e Psicologia e poi gli studi teologici a Malta, laureandosi in Teologia Pastorale. Ha poi proseguito gli studi post-laurea presso l'Academia Alfonsiana (Università Lateranense, Roma) dove ha conseguito la Licenza in Teologia Morale con specializzazione in Bioetica, presentando una tesi dal titolo Eugenetica: Passato, Presente e Futuro (2002). La ricerca di dottorato è stata svolta sia presso l'Alfonsiana che presso il Kennedy Institute of Ethics (Georgetown University, Washington, DC) dove è stato accettato come ricercatore (2004). Nel gennaio 2006, ha difeso con successo la sua tesi di dottorato sul diritto dei bambini a partecipare al processo decisionale medico. Attualmente insegna in numerosi corsi di etica sociale e professionale, bioetica, etica degli affari, etica nella giustizia penale ed etica alimentare. Tra il 2008 e il 2013 è stato anche membro del Comitato consultivo di bioetica nazionale di Malta. È stato anche membro di Cost Action IS1201: Disaster Bioethics (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). Zammit attualmente presiede la Piattaforma di etica professionale presso la Facoltà di Teologia. È membro del Comitato Etico della Salute del Dipartimento della Salute nonché membro del Gruppo di riflessione sulla bioetica della COMECE. Tra gli ultimi suoi lavori ci sono Viaggio intorno alla bioetica: Tra scienza e cinema (curato insieme a Pietro Grassi ed Elena Toniato; Tau 2019); Contemporary Issues in Bioethics (curato insieme al Prof. Emmanuel Agius; Horizon 2019), e La bioetica e i cinque sensi (curato con Pietro Grassi, Tau 2021).
